Jumping alarm clock & mosquito net

November 1, 2012

Once upon a time, a young lady took an L.L. Bean travel alarm to Papua New Guinea. Not only would that small clock wake Beverly up, but it told her the room temperature. She quickly learned to enjoy knowing how ‘hot’ or how ‘cold’ she was at any moment. When in Walagu, the small travel clock was tucked into the mosquito net with her under the pillow.

Occasionally during an earthquake, the travel alarm clock would jump off the bedside table. Most of the time, the clock would be OK. Only a couple of times, the clock broke and was replaced by another L.L. Bean travel alarm. Beverly also bought extra clocks, so that there were clocks in her bedroom in Ukarumpa, and a couple of clocks in Walagu.

The Ukarumpa alarm clock was stolen and temporarily replaced by another clock in PNGThe replacement L.L. Bean alarm clock was shipped to Arlington. This newest style of clock is currently in use in Arlington. However, it already has a bad habit of jumping off the bedside table. When opened and on a table, its balance seems precarious. Even this morning – off the table.

Probably, this clock will be OK tucked into the mosquito net, and not allowed to sit on the bedside table. But no worries, the clock will be in good company of with a flashlight, some tissues, possibly a book or two. We’ll see!

Gosh, Beverly, it seems to me that this alarm clock just misses the earthquakes in PNG! It’s decided to create it’s own tremors 🙂
